Distance
8 mile loop around downtown Beacon, NY
Highlights
On this 8-mile loop we’re going to hit four breweries:
- Hudson Valley Brewery — Known for their unique sours and incredible art
- Industrial Arts Brewing Company — Brews with views
- Pillow & Oats — New kid on Main Street making world-class beers
- Two Way Brewing Company — Fire pits in the winter, and by far the best place to wait for the train year-round
Starting Line
At the Metro North Beacon Train Station, exit on the Hudson River (Western) side of the tracks for beautiful views of the Newburgh Bridge and city skyline. The entrance to Scenic Hudson’s Long Dock Park is across the parking lot, off of the overpass. Follow the path down to the river and along the water.
Route
The Klara Sauer Trail connects Long Dock Park to Madam Brett Park. At the end of the trail, make a left on Dennings Avenue to cross over the railroad tracks and enter Madam Brett.
After the boardwalk along Fishkill Creek, exit the park next to the Tioronda Hat Works Factory ruins and make a right onto Tioronda Avenue. In about a mile, the avenue will intersect with Main Street and you’ll find the Howland Cultural Center on your left. This gem of a building was designed in the 1870s by Richard Morris Hunt—who’s much more famous for having also worked on the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Biltmore, and even the Statue of Liberty. Definitely worth a visit, but then we’re ultimately turning right; because, at the bottom of the little hill is Hudson Valley Brewery.
Behind the brewery, the Greenway Trail continues to East Main Street. Enjoy the view of the Fishkill Overlook Falls from the Ron and Ronnie Sauers Bridge and—if the gossip websites are to be believed—do like Justin Bieber and pose with the dummy light at the street’s intersection with Main Street. Even if the Biebs rumors are false, it’s one of three left in operation in the United States and worth acknowledging. With the frequency that it gets hit or breaks, it’s unlikely to last much longer.
It’s a bit of a residential zig-zag from Main Street to Route 52, but then a straight shot to Industrial Arts Brewing Company up the hill on your left. Enjoy the views of Mount Beacon from their patio.
Recharged, head back to town the way you came until you reach Memorial Park. Turn right, following its edge along Wilkes Street. Then make a left on Matteawan Road—its name an homage to one of the villages that comprised modern-day Beacon before 1913.
Back on Main Street, Pillow & Oats marks 7 miles as our third brewery stop. If it’s on tap, Drool Face Emoji is a favorite.
Finish Line
The last, cool-down mile, passes the galleries, shops and restaurants along Main Street down the riverbank to West Main Street, where you’ll find Two Way Brewing. Only steps from the Beacon Train Station parking lot, check timetables, relax, and enjoy a celebratory toast. Cheers!
